The world's most famous collie defies the laws of nature to come out of retirement over 60 years after its cinematic debut, latching onto a new family when his owner is killed in a car crash. Lassie soon realises all is not well with the family's young son, who is struggling to come to terms with both his unfamiliar rural surroundings and the recent death of his mother, whose childhood farmstead now provides their new home. The resourceful dog sets about administering its own unique brand of four-legged, wet-nosed therapy, leading the child on a sentimental journey through the places and memories of his mother's past.
