Drama starring Toni Collette as a rock critic assigned to track down an ex-partner. With her magazine failing, Ellie (Collette)'s editor Giles (Oliver Platt) assigns her to track down a former musician who disappeared ten years earlier, in the hope of producing one more big story to rekindle the print's dwindling readership. But the trip has more personal implications for Ellie who dated and inspired the man who became the popular musician Matthew Smith (Johnny Depp), only for him to abandon her and his many fans when he mysteriously vanished. She's joined in her quest around Seattle and beyond by old friend Charlie (Thomas Haden Church) who insists on filming their attempts at finding Matthew for a documentary, but will the pair finally be able to solve the decade long mystery?
