MODERN CONFLICTS - THE GULF WAR: Wings Over The Gulf DVD

| DVD

The ground war begins and its greatest air support comes from two American workhouses, the F-16 Fighting Falcon and the A-10 Thunderbolt. The small, fast and highly maneuverable F-16 flew more missions during the Gulf War than any other plane. With its Sidewinder, Sparrow and American missiles, it proved devastating against Iraqi supply lines, airfields, chemical factories and other military installations. In contrast the A-10 Thunderbolt, nicknamed 'The Warthog' due to its antiquated design and electronics, helped win the war by repeatedly bombing Iraqi tanks. In... order to reign supreme in the skies, the planes had to be refueled mid-air. A fleet of air-to-air tankers, mostly KC-135s and KC-10s, pumped 110 million gallons of fuel into 46,000 airplanes during Operation Desert Storm. Admire the skill of the pilots, listen to the sadness of the crews as they talk about friendly fire and watch in awe at the jets streaking through the skies. [show more]
