The Iraqi town of Fallujah, once one of the most peaceful areas of the country had grown increasingly violent since the fall of Saddam Hussain in 2003. On 2 April 2003 a crowd of 200 people defied a curfew and gathered outside a local school to protest against the presence of foreign forces in the city. The protest escalated as gunmen amongst the protesting crowd reportedly fired upon US troops and US Army soldiers returned fire, killing 17 people and wounding more than 70 of the protesters. Tensions between US forces and local residents then reached boiling point,... when on 31 March 2004 four Americans were ambushed and killed in the city and images of their mutilated bodies were broadcast around the world. The U.S. government was outraged and ordered a full assault on the city. On 2 April, 'Operation Vigilant Resolve' was launched and the mission for Marines to capture ill insurgents in and around Fallujah, not just those responsible for the Blackwater killings, was put into action! This dramatic programme tells the incredible story of the insurgent attack on the four private contractors and the subsequent military operations to gain control of the city.
