Six classic films starring Mae West. West stars alongside Cary Grant in the romantic comedy 'She Done Him Wrong' (1933). Mae Lou (West) is a singer working at the Gay Nineties saloon owned by Gus Jordan (Noah Beery). In order to keep Lou by his side, Gus plies her with diamonds. What she doesn't know is that Gus actually traffics in prostitution and runs a counterfeiting ring to help finance her expensive gifts. Lou has her share of male admirers whom she keeps at arm's length. But the tough woman soon finds her heart melting for a handsome young man, Capt. Cummings (Grant), who works for the local city mission. In the Western comedy 'Belle of the Nineties' (1934), Ruby Carter (West) is a cabaret singer working in Mississippi. In a man's world, Ruby has little trouble surviving on her own terms, resisting the attentions of a deluge of lecherous men. Instead, she reserves her affections for a boxer called The Tiger Kid (Roger Pryor). West stars as dancer and lion tamer Tira in the romantic comedy 'I'm No Angel' (1933). Short of cash, Tira starts performing ever more dangerous stunts until her circus builds up an exciting reputation. But when she meets handsome Jack Clayton (Cary Grant), Tira ends up suing him for breach of contract after their relationship breaks up. Only when Clayton lets her win the case does she realise that she truly loves him. In 'Klondike Annie' (1936), beautiful Rose Carlton (West) escapes from her sugar daddy in San Francisco's Chinatown on a ship bound for Alaska's gold rush territory, and gets into all kinds of scrapes and romantic entanglements along the way. 'My Little Chickadee' is a classic western written by and starring West and W.C. Fields. When Flower Belle Lee (West) is accused of having a relationship with a mysterious masked bandit, she is forced to leave her home town, Little Bend, and move to Greasewood City. On the train she meets Cuthbert J. Twillie (Fields), a con man who conspires with Flower to fake a marriage in order to gain 'respectability'. When the pair arrive in Greasewood City, Twillie, by chance, becomes sheriff of the town. But the man who appointed him, town boss Jeff Badger (Joseph Calleia), has an ulterior motive. In 'The Heat's On' (1943) actress Fay Lawrence (West) leaves the set of her forthcoming musical, which she is convinced is going to flop, to star in a rival revue 'Tropicana' - much to the consternation of the show's producer Tony Ferris (William Gaxton).
