Rock Hudson stars in this Howard Hawks comedy as angling expert Roger Willoughby, employed by a sporting goods company to help sell fishing equipment. But what no one knows is that Roger has never caught a fish in his life, and when his boss Abigail (Paula Prentiss) enters him into a fishing contest as good publicity for the company, Roger has to think fast. Winning the competition out of pure luck, he confesses his secret and is promptly sacked. Impressed by his honesty though, and secretly attracted to him, Paula eventually relents and takes him back into the office and into her heart.
