This adaptation of the 2005 novel by Kazuo Ishiguro is directed by Mark Romanek and stars Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan and Andrew Garfield as Ruth, Kathy and Tommy, three youngsters who all grew up in what appears to be an archetypal English boarding school in Hailsham in the 1970s. All is not quite what it seems, however, and the institution is anything but normal and is actually a rather sinister incarceration unit. While they are there they learn the truth about their real existence which is based within a rigid social structure imposed upon them by the state... They discover that they are actually scientific specimens - clones - and that their true destiny is to provide donor organs to be harvested in the near future for severely ill patients. As they reach adulthood and try to come to terms with their impending misfortune, and short life expectancies, the three inadvertently become entangled in a love triangle. This unforgettable dystopian account of the lives of these unfortunate creatures is menacing, evocative, intriguing and is remarkably faithful to Ishiguro's original story. [show more]
