Everything comes to life. Oh yes, it certainly does!!!!
I went to see this movie in the cinemas and it was better than I thought it would have been. In a way, it was all sort of magical film.
Ben Stiller, Ricky Gervais, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, Dick Van Dyke, Mikey Rooney and Bill Cobbs were outstanding as their roles. The film was very funny.
Basically, at night, all animal bones etc... come to life and I will not tell you the rest as it will spoil the movie!
Go on watch it, You will like it.

2006"s festive cinema season has been a bit of a dog. Rife with disappointment"s, and just plain stinkers it"s an awful way for a pretty good year in film to end, but none the less it has. Night at the museum released on boxing day looked like it could offer some salvation however. Packed with some of the funniest people, well ever and a huge budget there was no way it was going to be awful. In the end it"s not bad but far from great. When you combine the likes of Ben Stiller, Ricky Gervais, Dick Van Dyke, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan and Micky Rooney you expect brilliance, whilst here we just get quite good.
Stiller plays Larry a down on his luck guy, who just can"t hold down a job. His young Son is losing faith in him and growing ever more attached to his likeable Step Dad played by Paul Rudd. So in a last ditch effort for employment he takes the available night guard post at the museum. The three old watchmen who he is replacing, are a bizarre bunch but let him in on all the secrets and tactics to ensure the job goes well, including the fact all the exhibits in the building come to life at night!!!!
The premise is good, the cast are good, the effects are good but sadly director Levy isn"t. His C.V includes abominations like Just Married and Cheaper by the Dozen along with Steve Martin"s recent and very disappointing The Pink Panther. He shows some improvement here and his handling of the physical comedy and effects are adequate, but when it comes to talky or sentimental scenes he makes them so syrupy and dull that the viewer becomes dispirited when the action shifts from the museum to the outside world.
It"s useful then that he has perhaps the funniest and most likeable cast of the year at his disposal and that certainly counts for a lot in this movie. Stiller has plenty of energy in the leading role and despite a fairly small part Ricky Gervais still manages to be 100% hilarious. Dick Van Dyke, Bill Cobbs and Micky Rooney are clearly having a great time as the old watchmen and present several great jokes along the way. Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan however are by far the best offering. They play little models in the museum, a cowboy and a Roman respectively. These two and their fellow miniature"s are constantly at war, and annoying each other. It"s the fact Coogan and Wilson just spark of each other so well that make their characters the best and in particular Wilson, who gets slightly more screen time than his counter part. There are weaknesses in the chain though. Robin Williams does a very sentimental and saccharine turn as a Teddy Roosevelt Mannequin and Carla Gugino is far from convincing as Stiller"s love interest of sorts.
The effects in the movie are rather excellent and numerous. The best of them has to be the T-Rex skeleton which runs rampant through the museums hallways, just wanting to play fetch. There"s also some very convincing safari creatures and a wonderfully rendered and very troublesome monkey, named Dexter. The film might have fared better had the studio been willing to increase it"s MPAA or BBFC rating. Maybe then some of the more natural comedians particularly Gervais and Coogan might have been able to develop the comedy further, because as it stands it"s very well.......PG. There"s also a slightly sickening family friendly ending which comes of as plain preachy and annoying in all honesty.
In Conclusion this is enjoyable and diverting enough, with some rather spectacular effects. It"s also possibly the best family film the Christmas season of 2006 has seen, but that probably says more about Christmas 2006"s cinematic efforts than anything else.
