Klaas van Eijkeren directs this war drama centred around a young Foreign Legion volunteer during WWI. Living in Paris at the outbreak of the First World War, Dutch-Indian Arthur Knaap (Timothy Flohr) feels compelled to take up arms in the protection of his adopted homeland and joins the Foreign Legion. Fighting to protect and defend the country he loves, Arthur is forced to confront the brutal realities of war as he serves in the trenches of the front line. Growing increasingly disillusioned with the atrocities of battle, Arthur attempts to seek comfort by writing to his girlfriend and parents back home telling of his experiences from the trenches.
