John Gilling directs this 1950s British crime drama starring Hugh Sinclair, John Laurie and Dinah Sheridan. When successful London crime novelist Robert Southley (Sinclair) finds himself the subject of a blackmail attempt from a former US crime associate, he turns to his own books in search of a solution. Believing he has solved the problem by killing the blackmailer, Southley is stunned when Scotland Yard's Inspector MacDougall (Laurie) asks him for help solving the case. Caught in the somewhat awkward position of trying to solve a murder he committed himself, he will have to be at his creative best to come up with a way out of the fix.
