Festive musical in which a nine-year-old child's dull Christmas is enlivened by a special gift. Mary (Elle Fanning) is a Viennese girl whose Christmas distinctly lacks cheer; she is neglected by her parents and diverted only by the troublemaking of her brother, Max (Aaron Michael Drozin). However, the arrival of her favourite uncle, Albert (Nathan Lane), as well as his gift of a nutcracker doll, turns things around. At night the nutcracker (Charlie Rowe) comes to life, asking Mary to call him NC, and the pair embark on an enchanted adventure.
