We begin this tour in the historic city of Oxford a great place to watch the passage of trains. The station is well served by passenger trains including the popular DMUs and loco-hauled Virgin trains in the form of Class 47s. Freight can be plentiful with 47s 57s and of course the ubiquitous Class 66 running on various freight workings - even Fragonset make an appearance on a freightliner working. At Hinksey you will find a virtual quarry run by Railtrack. It can get very busy here and with excellent views in both directions you are sure to enjoy this serene location.... Trains can easily be photographed and filmed from the pedestrian footbridge and you can watch trains being loaded and unloaded ready for dispatch. Trains seen here are 37s 47s 57s and of course 66s; again non stop action. Moving further south three other locations are visited. These are Radley Culham and Didcot. As well as being home to the Great Western Railway Society its also a great train watching location and acts as an important interchange to Oxford and Reading. EWS have a yard here and locomotives can often be seen waiting for their next turn of duty. With Classes 37 47 57 58 66 and various classes of DMUs this is a truly packed out rail action. [show more]
