Parades End is the well-received TV miniseries which was shown on BBC 2 in summer 2012. It is a beautiful adaptation of Ford Madox Ford's series of four novels of the same name with the screenplay having been skilfully scripted by the playwright Sir Tom Stoppard, his return back to TV after a 20 year absence.
The story is set in Edwardian London and the chaotic war-torn battlefields of France before and during the First World War. It is essentially a love story centred around wealthy aristocrat Christopher Tietjens (Benedict Cumberbatch). He finds he is... torn between his loyalty to his wife Sylvia (Rebecca Hall) a socialite who has often been unfaithful and his love for brave young suffragette, Valentine Wannop (Adelaide Clemens).
Brilliant script, stunning cinematography, excellent acting - highly recommended.
