A firm believer in the need for a transparent government, Kennedy had made as many friends as he had enemies which led to speculation on the identity of his killer, widely thought to have been a lone gunman. Following the events of his shooting and showing the people who had come into contact with him afterwards, including the doctors and staff of Parkland Hospital in Dallas, the film also recounts the manhunt by Agent Forrest Sorrels (Billy Bob Thornton) of the Secret Service for the president's apparent killer, former US Marine and Soviet defector Lee Harvey Oswald (Jeremy Strong).
