The next morning she awakes and is stunned to discover they are at sea and bound for the strangers home - a rundown shack on a remote island. Cut off from the world she knows the shocking truth begins to dawn she's been kidnapped and she begins to plan on how to escape...
Nearly everyone has thought about it. Imagine if you"re trapped on an island, unable to escape, with a threat hovering out of reach. This idea is played around with this atmospheric, though slightly soulless romantic thriller, starring Rachael Blake and Sam Neill. Given an almost non-existent cinema run in the UK, "Perfect Strangers" sees board New Zeeland fish-shop worker Melanine go on a one night stand with a gruff but attractive stranger. However, the stranger turns out to live up to noun, taking Melanine to an unknown island while she is asleep. Madness, love and obsession are woven into a patchwork of bizzar happenings, producing well-judged performances from the two leads, even if the script seems a little out of sync.
