The apparently final film for the amazing Daniel Day Lewis, in Phantom Thread he is cast as a Reynolds Woodcock a Couturier in London during 1954 who is in high demand dressing the rich and famous. His mother has died and he suffers from haunting memories of her and his sister Cyril manages his business for him.
Reynolds becomes romantically involved with a waitress, Alma who agrees to become his assistant much to the chagrin of Cyril who is concerned about her motives.
The relationship is essentially dysfunctional between Reynolds and Alma and without causing... a spoiler what is best described as a Munchausen's behaviour ensures Alma is able to exert her power over the stricken designer.
