Part New Wave, part pure punk, part Brit pop, the Psychedelic Furs have changed little over the course of their more than two decades together as this concert, filmed at the House of Blues in Los Angeles in 2001, makes crystal clear. That means that Furs fans will delight in the 15-song, 75-minute concert's non-stop onslaught of thick, echo-drenched slabs of guitar and frontman Richard Butler's braying vocals. Sure, the lyrics are largely unintelligible; the sound tends toward the monotonous; Butler says nary a word to the audience; and there are no on-screen titles,... which makes it tough to tell one song from another. But the singer has undeniable charisma and energy, as well as some catchy tunes--including, of course, "Pretty in Pink", from the 1986 movie of the same name. And the 15-minute, three-song acoustic segment is a welcome bonus at the end of the programme. --Sam Graham, Amazon.com [show more]
