Attorney Sarah Barcant returns to South Africa to represent Alex Mpondo, once a political activist who cannot remember the torture that he endured whilst in captivity, and the family of missing activist Steve Sizela. Based on the novel by Gillian Slovo.
Tense legal drama set amongst South Africa's 'Truth and Reconciliation' committees in the aftermath of apartheid. Hilary Swank plays Sarah Barcant, a lawyer who returns to her home country after years spent living in the United States so she can represent Member of Parliament Alex Mpondo (Chiwetel Ejiofor). Mpondo is testifying about his torture when arrested years before as a young political activist, when his friend Steve Sizela was arrested and later disappeared. As the commission hears more evidence about this dark period of South Africa's past, Sarah gradually begins to uncover the truth.
