This fantastic drama/comedy from Director John Turturro was over looked by many people the few months ago when it was released, and, after receiving some luke-warm reviews, it dissappeared, but this reception is entirely unworthy as, it has to be one of the most original and funny attempts at a musical released in the past few years. What with frenetic glamorous films like moulin rouge, and 'straight-from the theatre' films like chicago and rent due this summer, romance and cigarettes uses real actors with believable performances, puts a simple, heart-warming story in, and, with the use of some clever musical voice-over work, it makes for a genuine, entertaining, sometimes touching, sometimes hilarious piece of low-budget film that deserves a lot of praise.(In particular, Kate winslet's fantastic role as a fiery, red-headed, northern adultress, named Tula.) A dvd you must buy, it is good!
