The Royal Navy - At War and Peace is a unique DVD series collecting together rare or previously unseen and unavailable films from the Royal Navys long and distinguished history. As well as providing film records of RN ships weaponry exercises tactics training and facilities it also offers an invaluable `behind the scenes look at life in the Royal Navy. This collection features four films and covers the period 1952 to 1960. Gateway To Adventure A look at life for officer cadets at Britannia Royal Navy College Dartmouth. The film includes spectacular FAA Sea Hawk... footage as the cadets take part in simulated air attack exercises scenes on board the Dartmouth Squadrons HMS Vigilant and HMS Carron at sea and a visit to the college by Earl Mountbatten. Codename Snake's Eye A Royal Navy carrier lends its Venoms as air support to a large-scale Royal Marine Commando exercise in the Mediterranean. The film provides a detailed account of the exercise from start to finish with simulated commando assaults SBS special missions and a low-level strike by the Venoms against an `enemy airfield. Tiffy A detailed look at the many and varied Artificer posts in the Royal Navy with particular emphasis on those serving aboard an aircraft carrier as well as Artificers working with MTBs submarines and destroyers. The documentary includes a fascinating look at HMS Illustrious as she prepares to set sail. Spring Cruise A unique colour film record of 15 ships of the Home Fleet making a goodwill visit to the West Indies in the mid 1950s before sailing North to conduct joint exercises with the Royal Canadian Navy.
