The Rugby World Cup in 2011 was the largest sporting event ever to be held in New Zealand and was topped off by the host’s famous victory over France in the final. The final was held at Eden Park in Auckland and eventually finished 8-7 in an absolutely thrilling game that had everybody around the world on the edge of their seats. There were many other highlights from the outstanding tournament which included defending champions South Africa being knocked out in the quarter finals by a fantastic Australian side, one of the greatest semi finals in recent history between... Wales and France, and who can’t forget Julio Farias Cabello’s unbelievable try for Argentina against New Zealand? It was definitely a testing tournament for all of the teams involved and the atmospheres at some of the smaller stadiums were unforgettable. However the tournament didn’t go by without controversy and disappointment though with some questionable refereeing decisions including James Hook’s penalty against South Africa not being checked by the video referee and Martin Johnson’s England team having a World Cup that they’d rather forget. Relive all the action again with this excellent review of what was a memorable event, not only for New Zealand, but for Rugby in general. –T.P [show more]
