Zoltan Korda directs this British drama set in British Colonial Nigeria. The titular Sanders (Leslie Banks) is the British Resident Commissioner in the River District of West Africa. In his role he has managed to bring peace to the region and has taken Bosambo (Paul Robeson) into his service as a probationary chief. On Sanders' orders Bosambo frees a slave convoy that were to be sold to the primitive tribe of King Mofolaba (Toto Ware). While Sanders is away, Mofolaba takes his revenge by killing Sanders' deputy, leaving Bosambo for dead and stealing his new wife. Will Sanders be able to restore order when he returns?
