Scrubs is the US hospital comedy smash hit narrated through the eyes of JD the medical intern who shares the joys and pains of working in Sacred Heart Hospital with his juvenile and character building friends Elliot, Turk and Carla.
Series 8, and in fact every episode, can be enjoyed as a standalone story, but it is highly addictive and is likely that you would want to watch each episode consecutively. Each episode is a mini drama in its own right and the show has just about covered every social aspect of life and death, invariably using a little bit of black... humour to help it along. It is a caricature of hospital life, however it is not a send up, and rather it seeks out the dark side of hospital life often transforming it into comedy and poignancy.
Season 8 enjoys the rekindling of the love affairs between JD and Elliot and Dr Cox and his ex wife. Dr Cox becomes chief of medicine and builds a better relationship with his former adversary Dr Kelso who has retired and spends his days taking advantage of lifelong free muffins in the refectory. JD continues to be harassed by the Janitor. This season's enjoys a two-part section that takes the cast to the Bahamas for Janitor's wedding.
The DVD contains bonus features that include: My Bahamas Trip; Bill Lawrence answers fan questions; deleted scenes; bloopers; Alternative takes; webisodes.

Brilliant comedy series including smiles tears and laughter. Possibly better than friends. Cast are amazing, gags are wonderful and dialogue is superb! Well worth the buy!
Much better than Friends - incredibly funny and yet full of pathos. Each episode is extremely well written, and you grow to empathise with each character, even the more difficult or annoying ones. If you have never seen it before it is worth starting with series one, just because to start with series 8 will indeed spoil your enjoyment of the series inbetween. However, if you didnt see series 6 and 7, they were not as good as previous series, and you can go straight to series 8 without spoiling your enjoyment.
As far as family viewing is concerned, it really depends on your attitude to sex. There is lots of realistic discussion about sex between the characters, but no vulgarity. We let our 13 year old watch it and he thinks it is hilarious.
Verdict
Excellent, funny and full of pathos.
