Yeah, OK, there are a lot of laughs, and, yeah, the Scorsese/De Niro stuff is particularly fun, but 'Shark Tale' (like every other Dreamworks (3D) animated feature) falls way below the Pixar level. The script is functional, featuring the usual mechanics and messages, and as usual, they're getting by on the hip factor and relying on an all-star voice cast. I have less time for this than 'Shrek' due to the fact that it's CG fish on the tail of 'Nemo', so while I pretty much enjoyed it, I kinda despise Dreamworks for making this, AND it's the second time they've pulled this trick (I'm refering back to 'Antz', here.) What's next, 'The Amazings'? Bottom line: Pixar = 6 instant classics, Dreamworks = 4 OK offerings. Let's hope 'Madagascar' is a step up, however, in our world of brand this brand that, chances are the finger is hovering above the Hollywood Instant Replay Button.

Oscar (Will Smith), a lowly tongue-scrubber at the local Whale Wash, becomes an improbable hero when he tells a great white lie. To keep his secret, Oscar teams up with an outcast vegetarian shark, Lenny (Jack Black), and the two become the most unlikely of friends. When his lie begins to unravel, it's up to Oscar's loyal friend Angie (Renée Zellweger) and Lenny to help him stand up to the most feared shark in the water (Robert De Niro) and find his true place in the reef.
