Feature-length drama following the lives of a group of Australian nurses held captive by the Japanese during the Second World War. When the Japanese Army capture the island of New Britain in 1942 they are unhappy to inherit a Catholic mission station. Dissuaded from killing the inhabitants of the station by the bluffing of its leader, Bishop Leo Scharmach (Gerald Lepkowski), the Japanese intern them instead. Under the brutal conditions of Japanese rule, the nurses, Lorna (Sarah Snook) and Berenice (Claire van der Boom), must deal with beatings, deprivation and suspicions of collaboration as both their friendship and their faith are tested to the limit.
