1970s Bollywood drama following the fortunes of three married couples. Tripathi (Sanjeev Kumar) and his wife Mary are happily married, unlike Geeta (Shabana Azmi) and Vinod (Vinod Mehra), who live in Vinod's mother's house. Theirs is a failing union, with Vinod spending a lot of time with Leena (Prema Narayan) and frequenting late night parties. His wife patiently awaits his return every night. The third partnership is that of Shobha (Moushumi Chatterjee) and Vicky Kapoor (Jeetendra), who on the surface seem content - but their relationship is in fact being undermined by Shobha's jealousy and possessiveness.
