As I like The D's music, its hard for me to admit that 'Tenacious D: The Pick Of Destiny' is not only bad, but at times, desperately unfunny. A lot of this has to do with the fact that Jack Black & Kyle Gas are kings when they"re rocking as 'The D' in music videos or onstage, but simply don"t have enough material to warrant an entertaining feature film. After all, the only reason 'Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back' worked, was because of Kevin Smith's writing ability, the wealth of cameos and the culmination of over a decade's worth of 'View Askew' in-jokes. There's about 15-20 minutes worth of vintage D in this film, unfortunately, the movie clocks in at 90 minutes, which makes the flabby mid-section, in spite of some smirk-inducing cameos by Tim Robbins and Ben Stiller, practically unwatchable. And with next to no gags for almost half-an-hour, kills the momentum needed to make their 'Tribute' tribute rock off against Satan worth watching (which is a pity, because its actually one of the movie's funniest scenes). Lazily directed by Liam Lynch, best known for his song 'My United States Of Whatever' and MTV work, 'Tenacious D: The Pick Of Destiny' is a missed opportunity if ever there was one, and though it starts with a bang (Black's improv lyrics to Beethoven"s 9th are hilarious) quickly disappears in a puff of bong smoke. A real let down, you"re better off just watching their music videos: Great soundtrack, shame about the movie.

Wow, what a film. Tenacious D are an awesome spoof metal band, who have created a new genre with regards to metal music. Jack Black's amazing career in both music and film brings a touch of reality to this fantastic film. The story of Tenacious D is filled with sadness, hope and laughter; giving the audience an insight into the band. Kylie Gass' bravardo "don't care" attitude creates amazing chemistry between the two performers; giving the characters depth. The introduction of Lee (from their first album) is also amusing, incorporating their earlier music in this album and also the new soundtrack which accompanies it.
The search for the "Pick of Destiny" is hillarious and yet sad; the exciting car chases, fights, and girls is a winning combination with one of the most talented people in music and film, Jack Black.
A must see for any fans of Tenacious D, Jack Black, and humerous films. Best film I've seen for ages.

Comedy starring Jack Black (School of Rock, King Kong) in his other capacity as one half of hard-rockin spoof band, Tenacious D. This is the story of how the band Tenacious D came into being. Jack Black, a green Midwestern newcomer to California, comes across Kyle Gass playing guitar on the beach and is stricken. KG is a guitar god and JB wants to be part of his life. The marriage of his classic Rock voice and KG's shredding, face-melting solos proves fruitful. Their partnership soon gives rise to the idea that the two could go for Rockin' world domination and this they set out to achieve. The road to Rock Valhalla is a long and arduous one though. To shorten it, they set out on the quest for The Pick Of Destiny - housed in a museum some miles away but promising its possessor mythological Rock immortality. However its theft proves to be a complicated business at the end of a long and winding road.   Actors: Jack Black, Kyle Gass, Jason Reed, Ronnie James Dio, Troy Gentile Directors: Liam Lynch Language: English Subtitles: English Number of discs: 1
