Episodic drama based on an ancient Chinese proverb that divides life into four emotional principles - happiness, pleasure, sorrow and love. Andy Garcia plays Fingers, a powerful crime boss who subtly controls the destinies of four people, including 'Happiness' (Forest Whitaker), a quiet businessman who bets everything he has on a horse race after being told it has been fixed; 'Sorrow' (Sarah Michelle Gellar), an insecure singer who finds her career in jeopardy; 'Pleasure' (Brendan Fraser), a criminal who must decide whether to follow his visions of the future; and 'Love' (Kevin Bacon), a doctor who is seeking a blood donor with a rare blood type in order to save the life of the woman he loves.
