When novelist Joe (Alan Cumming) and his actress wife Sally (Jennifer Jason Leigh) throw themselves a party to celebrate the sixth anniversary of their turbulent marriage, both the hosts and the guests start telling each other the one thing they never hear in Hollywood - the truth! This scathingly funny drama takes an unflinching look at new friends, old lovers, annoying neighbours, marriage and the movie business.
Written and directed by Alan Cumming and Jennifer Jason Leigh, who also star as celebrity couple Joe (Cumming) and Sally (Leigh), this affectionate satire on Hollywood life centres around a party thrown by the couple to celebrate their sixth anniversary (and reunion after a year-long split). However, their newly re-kindled relationship is already starting to show cracks. Sally's career as an actress, once extremely successful, is slowing down, while Joe, a best-selling novelist, has just sold the film rights to his latest novel. But instead of offering the lead role to his wife, he has selected her arch-rival, beautiful young actress Skye Davidson (Gwyneth Paltrow), and moreover has invited Skye to the party. Other guests include Cal and Sylvia Gold, played by real-life married couple Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates.
