This is the story of Wojtek the Soldier Bear - a magnificent 500lb military bear who fought in World War Two alongside a band of Polish soldiers, shared their beer and cigarettes - and eventually their fate. Told by those that knew him, his story will capture the imagination and provide a very different perspective of the Polish war story.

Brian Blessed narrates this documentary about Wojtek, the Syrian brown bear that served during the Second World War. In 1942 the orphaned cub was found in Iran by the 22nd Artillery Supply Company of the Polish II Corps. The soldiers took him in, cared for him and, in turn, he gave them hope. During the Battle of Monte Cassino Wojtek helped to transport ammunition (an act which he would become famous for), throughout his life he journeyed to several different countries, and after the war he was taken to Scotland where he died in 1963.
