Sumptuous, early Technicolor feature from celebrated producer David O. Selznick. Following the death of her father, heiress Domini Enfelden (Marlene Dietrich) takes a trip to Algeria, where her adventures soon bring her into contact with the mysterious and seductive Boris Androvsky (Charles Boyer), a man concealing a bitter past as a Trappist monk. Domini marries Boris but remains unaware of his secret; then, one night in an oasis in the Sahara desert, they meet a man from Boris' past and the truth is finally revealed.
