Chinese drama based on the autobiography of Wu Qingyuan, the world's greatest player of the traditional Eastern game Go. Although born in China, Qingyuan (played by Chen Chang) moves to Japan in his teens owing to his early successes as a Go child prodigy. He remains there throughout the unstable and violent 1930s and '40s, and is playing a tournament in Hiroshima when it is bombed. This meditative study directed by Zhuangzhuang Tian depicts a life based on the pursuit of two inner goals: Go and a strong religious faith.
