Drama starring Jeff Bridges as a hot-headed young stock car racer seeking fame and fortune on the track. Based on the true life story of champion racer Junior Johnson, the film follows Junior Jackson (Bridges), a rebellious youth who only begins to apply himself to his talent for racing when his father (Art Lund) is imprisoned. Jackson swiftly rises to the top level of the sport and believes he can raise enough money on the track to get his father out of jail. However, the big league is fraught with travails and temptations, from track groupie Marge (Valerie Perrine), who flirts with Junior while maintaining a relationship with his fiercest rival, Kyle Kingman (William Smith), to the sleazy corporate moneyman, Burton Colt (Ed Lauter). Can Junior maintain a sense of himself and triumph amidst the chaos?
