Born on 9 June 1915 American jazz guitarist and inventor Les Paul was credited with inventing the solid-body electric guitar in 1941 and other recording innovations. Jazz musicians who acknowledge Paul's influence include George Benson Al DiMeola Stanley Jordan (whose neck-tapping sound is very reminiscent of Paul's records) Pat Martino and Bucky Pizzarelli. Paul married singer Mary Ford in 1949 and together they had hit records during the 1950's including Mockin' Bird Hill and Vaya Con Dios.
