A woman feels she must fight to hold on to her place in the household where she's been a servant for much of her life in this drama from writer and director Sebastian Silva.
Sebastian Silva directs this Chilean comedy drama exploring the subtle and complex dynamics at work between a well-meaning family and their servant. Catalina Saavedra stars as Raquel, a middle-aged maid who has worked for the same upper middle class family in Santiago for more than 20 years. When her barely-concealed resentment starts to manifest itself through clashes with her employer's eldest daughter, the family decide that she is overworked and draft in more help. Feeling displaced, Raquel proceeds systematically to sabotage each new employee by resorting to childish tactics in an attempt to cling to her indeterminate role within the family. Only Lucy (Mariana Loyola), last in the line of new recruits, is able to nudge Raquel gently towards the emotional breakthrough she needs to free herself from her state of part-real, part-imagined servitude.
