The Night of the Sunflowers DVD

| DVD

Two shocking crimes. One horrific mistake. A choice between justice or vengeance. First-time director Jorge Sanchez-Cabezudo brings a complex sense of structure and morality to this Spanish thriller which compares favourably with Twin Peaks and Memories of Murder.

Spanish horror thriller. A young woman from the city is raped in a remote area by a travelling vacuum cleaner salesman as she waits for her husband, a spelunking specialist, to return from an expedition into a newly discovered cavern. Her husband and his assistant - a local potholer - return and confront a man they believe to be responsible. Shades of 'Deliverance' follow as the case is tackled by the diligent village cop and a series of highly creepy locals come into the picture. The story is told through the eyes of six individuals involved in the story, building the tension and sense of foreboding.

Director Jorge Sanchez-Cabezudo's Goya-nominated rural film noir employs a RASHOMON-like storytelling technique to detail the journey of a Speleologist and an experienced potholer who emerge from a cave expedition to make a horrifying discovery. Castilla-Leon is a dying rural village in the middle of nowhere. When cave explorer Esteban (Judith Carmelo Gómez) learns of a newly discovers cavern in the area, she sets out with her experienced assistant (Walter Vidarte Alameda) to make an official document of it. Upon emerging the pair learns that Esteban's girlfriend has been assaulted, and sets out on a violent revenge mission that sets into motion a tragic series of events in the impoverished local communities.
