Disc 3. The Glorious South 1 hour The New Forest must have felt like a haven for the triumphant Norman invaders in the 11th Century but it was where William II met his untimely end. Equally the Isle ofWight is home to one of the happiest of Royal residences Osborne House. Alongside however is Carisbrooke castle where a king was imprisoned prior to his execution. In this programme we tour the South and visit the grandeur of Petworth and Arundel as well as the glorious surroundings of the Isle ofWight and the New Forest. Disc 4. Old England 1 hour This fascinating programme visits one of the most famous ancient sites of civilisation Stonehenge examines Salisbury's regal past and unearths the secret of Winchester's great Hall. We also explore the defender of the Empire's south coast Portsmouth where we join HMY Britannia for its final voyage. Disc 5. The Legacy 1 hour In this programme we look at the unique way in which the Royal family and its impact on our lives is woven into the fabric of society.We marvel at the splendours of Windsor Palace and witness the links that the City and the Bank of England have with Royalty.We also travel south west to sleepy Esher to see what impact the death of a princess - in her day as well loved as Princess Diana - had on the population of her time. Disc 6. London's Palaces 1 hour Westminster Abbey and the Palace of Westminster provide the backdrops and settings to some of the greatest state occasions and royal pageantry in our nation's life. Yet they are only two of an extraordinary number of Palaces in the capital. Whitehall Palace is almost forgotten but the great banqueting hall provided the setting for the execution of the king who designed it. Then there is St James' Palace Kensington Palace and the most famous of them all Buckingham Palace. Disc 7. Monarchy Under Fire 1 hour In this journey around outer London we visit Richmond and its lost Palace where Queen Elizabeth I passed her final days.
