Dramatised narration of the classic novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Hester Prynne is a beautiful, free-spirited woman who is trapped in a puritanical settlers' colony, where she is dominated by her violent husband, Chillingworth. When she falls in love with the Reverend Dimsdale, the pair risk everything to be together, and soon face the wrath of the local settlers, who want to rid the colony of sin, and that of Prynne's betrayed husband, who leads the settlers to revolt.
