Romantic comedy starring Colin Firth in which the love of a couple is tested by their different cultural upbringing. When successful writer Matthew Field (Firth) arrives in a small coastal town in the south of France he is quickly befriended by seven-year-old Sammy (Fissy Roberts). Sammy identifies Field as the perfect partner for his unmarried mother Nimi (Nia Long) and makes sure to introduce the two. Though an attraction exists between Matthew and Nimi, circumstances render the relationship anything but straightforward. Nimi comes from a tightly-knit Nigerian community, whose elders are set on her marrying the respected Reverend Fola, while Matthew has to this point in his life been somewhat averse to committment. Can the two reconcile their differences and give Sammy the stability he needs?
