In a remake of the 1974 horror classic, a handful of friends become isolated in the company of a deadly clan of cannibals.
How gratifying to see this remake not only doing justice to the energy and anarchy of the fly-on-the-wall original, but being done in period, with cinematography and colour palette evoking the 1970s throughout. Slicked up enough for the multiplex crowd but without losing the original's relentless feeling of dread and inevitability, the film features a first rate cast and expert horror machinery. It fiddles around with the characters making up the film's monster family (with the exception of the iconic Leatherface, of course) and downplays the cannabalism, and it also gives a completely different spin on the fateful scene where our heroes pick up that hitchhiker, but all this works to give the remake it's own identity, whilst being true to Tobe Hooper's groundbreaking feature. After 30 years, the buzz is most definitely back!!
