A selection of films directed my Theo Angelopoulos. Includes 'ALEXANDER THE GREAT', 'VOYAGE TO CYTHERA', 'THE BEEKEEPER' and 'LANDSCAPE IN THE MIST'.

Second collection of feature dramas from acclaimed Greek filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos. 'Alexander the Great' (1980) is a dramatisation of the life of the legendary Greek king, tutored by Aristotle, whose armies drove the expansion of Ancient Greece and created one of the world's first empires. Omero Antonutti takes on the role of the powerful Alexander. 'Voyage to Cythera' (1984) follows the journey of an exiled Greek communist when he is allowed to return to his homeland. Spyros (Manos Katrakis) has been in exile in the Soviet Union for 32 years. Naturally, he is delighted when the opportunity to return home presents itself, but will the experience be all he had hoped for? 'The Beekeeper' (1986) is a melancholy drama portraying the mid-life crisis experienced by former teacher Spiros (Marcello Mastroianni). Facing an empty and uncertain future following his retirement and his daughter's wedding, Spiros sets out from the north to the south of Greece in search of a warm spring climate for his colony of bees. Along the way he meets a girl hitchhiker (Nadia Mourouzi) and an unconventional relationship develops between the two. 'Landscape in the Mist' (1988) follows the journey of two children as they head to Germany in search of their father. Voula (Tania Palaiologou) and Alexandros (Michalis Zeke) are determined to track down their absent dad and meet a number of interesting figures along the way. Finally, 'The Suspended Step of the Stork' (1991) follows the story of Alexandre (Gregory Patrikareas), a TV reporter who is posted for a few days to a border town filled with refugees from Albania, Turkey and Kurdistan. When he notices an old man (Mastroianni) among the refugees who bears a striking resemblance to a missing Greek politician, Alexandre's journalistic instincts are awakened and he sets out to investigate.
