British classic adventure drama set in 19th-century British Columbia, in which lonely fur trader Jean Le Bête (Oliver Reed) acquires himself a wife on one of his infrequent trips to civilisation. Eve (Rita Tushingham) is a mute girl who is initially wary of him, but after nursing him through illness and enduring all of his trials and tribulations she warms to him and shows that she too has the strength to survive in the harsh wilderness.
