| DVD

Gil Bellows (Ally McBeal) and Macha Grenon (Barney's Version) star in a fabulous and funny coming of age story about a little girl in search of her real mother, and herself. Featuring music from Martha Wainright, Nelly Furtado and of course Dolly, The Year Dolly Parton Was My Mom tells it like it is, in true Dolly style! It's 1976 and Elizabeth is just your average suburban 11-year-old praying for adolescence to arrive, when she discovers her whole life has been a lie. With only her imagination to guide her, Elizabeth runs away in search of her true identity. Her adoptive... mother Marion is then forced to break out of the carefully constructed truth she's been clinging to, and go after her daughter. What results is a breathtaking cross-country trek to meet Dolly Parton at a huge concert in Minneapolis - but will mother and daughter be reunited in time? [show more]

Canadian coming-of-age drama. After being told by her father that she is adopted, eleven-year-old Elizabeth (Julia Sarah Stone) decides to set off on the road in pursuit of her own identity. Feeling a strange affiliation with famous country singer Dolly Parton after convincing herself she is her mother, Elizabeth heads south to the United States to attend a concert in Minneapolis. But when her adoptive mother Marion (Macha Grenon) learns of Elizabeth's disappearance she quickly commits to tracking her down and embarks on her own journey of self discovery.
