Three Wishes For Cinderella DVD

| DVD

One of the most beloved films in all Eastern European cinema, Václav Vorlí ek's reworking of the classic Cinderella tale is both delightful and unconventional. Deviating from the original story, yet retaining an air of real magic and beauty, Three Wishes for Cinderella takes the familiar fairytale and invests it with a feisty and rebellious Cinderella who - far from being some passive beauty - rides a horse, knows how to hunt and actively pursues her handsome Prince. Shot on location in around the famous vihov castle and the surrounding forests of Bohemia, the film... grounds the familiar fairytale in a realistic setting with down-to-earth characters, and a remarkable central performance by the young Libu e afránková. Three Wishes for Cinderella became a treasured Christmas holiday classic in various European countries, and one which continues to charm and attract new audiences. Second Run are delighted to present this much loved feature in its original full-length version, newly restored from original materials and available for the first time ever in the UK. [show more]

Václav Vorlícek directs this Czech adaptation of the classic fairy tale. Living in a small village in the woods surrounding a grand castle, Popelka (Libuse Safránková) is forced to work as a servant undertaking menial tasks for her Stepmother (Carola Braunbock). One day, while out riding in the forest, she comes across a Prince (Pavel Trávnícek) and his hunting party. After impressing the Prince with her excellent hunting skills and charming him with her witty retorts, Popelka playfully dismisses his advances before returning home to her village. Later, upon learning that there is to be a ball at the castle where the Prince will choose a wife, Popelka uses some magic acorns she was given by a merchant to create a spectacular dress as part of her plan to finally let the Prince know of her true feelings for him.
