Michael Redgrave stars in this classic drama produced and directed by Roy Boulting. English journalist David Charleston (Redgrave) has dedicated a decade of his life to making the public aware of the dangers of Germany's new dictator Adolf Hitler. After years of trying and failing to get his message across Charleston admits defeat and decides to get away from European politics, taking up residence in a lighthouse in Lake Michigan, Canada. There, in his solitude, he is forced to reconsider the merit of turning his back on the world.
