Documentary in which former ITN newsreader Trevor McDonald journeys along the full length of the Mississippi River. At over 2,000 miles long, the Mississippi is the largest river in North America and one of the biggest in the world. Winding from the north to the south of the United States, the river is intimately bound up with the nation's history. On the course of his journey, McDonald examines the legacy of slavery alongside the Mississippi, visits a man who was standing beside Martin Luther King when he was shot and talks to actor Morgan Freeman about an attachment to the river that saw the actor move back there after a 40-year absence.
