Water for Elephants is a romantic drama based on Sara Gruen's bestselling novel of the same name. Set in America in the 1930s during the Great Depression, this compelling film tells the story of a young Veterinary School student, Jacob (Robert Pattinson), who drops out of Cornell University when his parents are killed in a car crash. He joins a second rate travelling circus troupe, the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth, as their vet caring for all their performing animals and it is here that he meets Rosie the elephant the newest addition to the circus.... While caring for the animal, he bonds with and subsequently falls in love with Marlena (Reese Witherspoon) who is married to August (Christoph Waltz), the unstable and rather dictatorial owner of the circus who is also head animal trainer. Recounted in flashback by Jacob as an old man, the story is engaging, moving and sentimental though at times realistically portrays the harshness of life in this historical era. Based on the acclaimed bestseller, WATER FOR ELEPHANTS presents an unexpected romance in a uniquely compelling setting. [show more]
