She becomes obsessed with the accounts of a secret romance between the two girls but when one of the students is found dead a new terror seeps through the school. Was it suicide or something more sinister? And what is the true meaning of the words written in the diary memento mori (remember the dead). Wishing Stairs (Dir. Jae-yeon Yun) (2003): There's a legend which claims that if you count aloud 28 steps to the school dormitory a 29th stair appears and a spirit will grant you a wish. Jin-sung hopes to win a vital scholarship to ballet school but when a rival wins it's time to seek out the spirit. But be careful what you wish for... The Voice (Dir. Ik-hwan Choe) (2005): Schoolgirl Young-eon is killed apparently by a mysterious voice that no-one else can hear. Her best friend Sun-min soon starts to hear her ghostly voice imploring her to investigate what it was that killed her. But soon others are starting to hear Young-eon's voice and things start getting out of hand...

  Dario Argento's 1998 Phantom of the Opera is about as far from Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical version as it's possible to get. Grand Guignol isn't in it as he ransacks Gaston Leroux's poignant original for all its darkest elements and slathers them in gore. This phantom is no masked stranger, his scars sensationally exposed in the last reel. Instead he is Julian Sands in vampirical mode, an enigmatic wraith with extraordinary, literally mordant, powers, raised by rats in the sewer beneath the Paris Opera. Above ground, the authentically drawn twittering and jealous world of the opera house falls unsuspecting prey to his machinations. As his quest to turn sweet-voiced Christina (Argento's daughter Asia) into a prima donna gathers pace, so the horribly mutilated bodies mount up, meeting their demise in increasingly bloody ways. Sands generates an erotic charge verging on the kinky. His ratty friends share more than the festering food on his table. Somehow, the tragic romance at the heart of the tale survives this boisterous treatment and the overall effect is curiously stylish, marred only by a poorly dubbed soundtrack. A cult movie in the making; definitely one to enjoy after a good night out at the pub.--Piers Ford

When Laura Verity (Joyce Howard) enters the house a few moments later she presumes that Heritage is the murderer and flees to call the police. But when the dead body disappears Laura and Heritage begin to realise that they are just pawns in a dangerous chess game played by Christopher Child (Tom Walls) the head of a Nazi spy ring.
