Wildly inventive, and breaking new ground in its combination of live action, animation and design, creating a 'steampunk' aesthetic decades ahead of its time. Determined to exorcise her overwhelming guilt, Manuela goes to Barcelona to finally tell his father about the son he never knew he had. There, the reason why she has kept the identity of her forbidden lover a secret for so long is revealed. He is a transvestite named Lola who is dying from an AIDS related illness. However in confronting her own past, Manuela forges a new future with Lola's transsexual best friend Agrado (Antonia San Juan), church social worker Sister Rosa (Penelope Cruz) and Huma, when her play comes to town. The Pasolini collection brings together six controversial films by the legendary Italian filmmaker, including his bawdy 'Trilogy of Life' films (The Decameron, Canterbury Tales and Arabian Nights), all of which feature scores by the Academy Award winning composer Ennio Morricone. Also included is Pasolini's brutal adaptation of Euripedes' Medea, starring opera sensation Maria Callas in her only film role, the scandalous modern drama Theorem, featuring a youthful Terence Stamp, and Pasolini's final, shocking film, Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom, based on the writings of the infamous Marquis De Sade. These intense, shocking and often extreme films challenged audiences and critics upon their original release, and they continue to do so today. Pasolini's legacy can be felt in the raw and energetic cinema of independent filmmakers such as Miike Takashi (whose Visitor Q is a re-interpretation of Theorem) and Abel Ferrara (whose latest film explores Pasolini's final days, with Willem Dafoe (The Last Temptation of Christ) playing the great director).

Finally released in 1946, ten years after it was made, Jean Renoir's Partie de campagne was hailed as an unfinished masterpiece. Since then, his masterly adaptation of a Maupassant story has grown in reputation to the point where it is now considered by many to be Renoir's best-loved film. On an idyllic country picnic, a young girl leaves her family and fiancé for a while, and succumbs to an all-too-brief romance. Shot on location on the banks of two small tributaries of the Seine, Renoir's sensuous tribute to the countryside and to the river has seldom been surpassed. In its bittersweet lyricism, its tenderness and poetic feel for nature, its tolerant satire of bourgeois conventions and its poignant sense of the transience of innocence and love, Partie de campagne seems to distil the essence of all that is most personal of Renoir's art. Product Features Restored in 2K and presented in High Definition Audio commentary by film historian Philip Kemp Un tournage à la campagne, an eighty-nine-minute 1994 compilation of outtakes from the film Screen tests (silent) Newly commissioned artwork by Jennifer Dionisi Other extras TBC
