If advancement in the world of melodic death metal had a special description it certainly would be In Flames. Founded back in 1990 the five-piece from Sweden has become the most innovative band in melodic death metal in the last 10 years. T-Rex were initially a British folk-rock combo called Tyrannosaurus Rex. The band developed into the primary force of 'Glam Rock' thanks to the creative direction of the guitarist/ vaocalist Marc Bolan. The music exposed the sexuality of early rock & roll whilst sustaining a clear honour to his early hippie spirituality.

Christina Aguileras My Reflection is a mirror that shows where the teen-pop divas going (toward grown-up diva-dom as an R&B star) and where shes been (showcasing her navel on a dance-infused tour). Aguileras first concert video shows that what this "girl" really wants is to move beyond the bouncy R&B-flavoured pop shes known for. Her cheeky hits ("Genie in a Bottle", "Come On Over Baby", "What a Girl Wants") are followed by songs from Mi Reflejo, her Spanish-language album and My Kind of Christmas, her holiday release. She has sweet duets with R&B legend Dr John on "Merry Christmas, Baby" and balladeer Brian McKnight on "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", as well as sharing the stage with rapper Lil Bow Wow (weird, but it works) on "So Emotional" and "Christmas Time". (Quick behind-the-scenes interviews from MTVs Diary punctuate the concert.) Despite her inability to resist over-the-top vocal histrionics, Aguileras range is impressive, whether shes performing a spirated rendition of Frees 1970 hit "All Right Now" or belting out Etta Jamess 1961 classic "At Last" after giving the blues singer a heartfelt tribute. --Valerie J Nelson, Amazon.com
1998's Family Values tour may have run to only a brief five shows, but its effect on the larger rock landscape is still being felt today. Devised by the band Korn and inspired by Jane's Addictions travelling Lollapalooza extravaganza, the tour brought together the now familiar cultures of metal and hip-hop on one genre-busting bill. This release is a combination of live footage and behind-the-scenes documentary (itself an odd mix of the new, thoughtful approach of bands like Korn and the rather tired rock 'n' roll clichés of some of their touring partners). Musically, the bill was a slightly hit-and-miss affair: openers Limp Bizkit were still struggling to find their sound during this tour and Orgy's sleazy Goth industrial didn't particularly work, especially their cover of New Order's "Blue Monday". Germany's Rammstein, however, are a terrifying, pyrotechnic wonder and Ice Cube provides perhaps the concert's best moment--the sight of a slightly uncomfortable looking New Orleans officer during "F**k Tha Police". The interview footage does much to convey the genuine family atmosphere that existed between the artists and all involved seem truly excited to be part of the whole experience. On the DVD: Digitally remastered from its original video release, the audio soundtrack is available in a choice of 5.1 surround sound or PCM stereo. The visual editing is superb, mirroring the cutting-edge nature of the project. A shame then, that the DVD is unable to offer much in the way of extras other than instant chapter accesses to individual tracks.--Phil Udell
